An introduction to the man behind it all

Profile: Khaidi Kamaruddin, General Manager, KL MotoPark & Motorsports Malaysia

Khaidi Kamaruddin is no stranger in the motorsports arena, which he began to be actively participate in about the same time he built his career in the events industry.
A man of many talents, Khaidi honed his entrepreneurial and marketing skills as the Head of Marketing and Communications for Race Rally Research (R3) from 2003 to 2006. The wealth of experience he garnered during his tenure certainly came in handy when he started his own company in April 2006, Motorsports Knights Sdn Bhd.
Motorsports Knights was the contractor for D1GP 2006, the most prolific drift championship in the world. Drift champions from all over the world participated in the event, where Malaysian motorsports icons emerged, such as Tengku Djan Ley, Ah Fai and Lim Zee Kang.
As a racer, Khaidi Kamaruddin “revved” his way up from a privateer in the race series held at Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, to be crowned the third place winner in Class B of the Merdeka Millenium Endurance race in 2003, as Team Air Asia/Toyota's driver.
He has had lots of experience in both motorsports and event organization. His passion and flair for events became evident when he successfully organized his first independent gig, the 1995 ‘Ultimate Shock’, at the tender age of 19.
This was then followed by a string of music events, featuring music from the alternative and grunge genres. He was appointed Manager for popular Malaysian Group, Butterfingers, at its conception stage. He was instrumental in introducing the band to Malaysians, leading the band in a nationwide tour in 1998.
In December 2006, he organized the biggest music festival to be held in Malaysia – the Velocity KL Music Festival, bringing in a paying crowd of 24,000. The event was crowned “The Coolest Club Gig,” by Malay Mail.
He is currently the General Manager for Motorsports Malaysia and spearheads the development of the KL MotoPark.
