Assalamualaikum and thank you for coming.
I would like to begin my speech by expressing my deepest gratitude for all who are here to support KL MotoPark. It is indeed heartwarming to see such an excellent turnout from the motoring community for KL MotoPark. Today’s groundbreaking event is a symbolic beginning for us, but more than anything else, it is a ceremony of thanks for all who rallied behind us – all of you here, who have made it possible to take this first step.
Allow me to speak from the heart. Today is a proud and emotional day indeed for the team at KL MotoPark. I say that today is an emotional day for us as KLMP is the result of much hard work. The team has spent close to two years so far, developing the best models to make the park viable. Coming from motoring backgrounds we all had very high expectations for business practices, safety, motoring, competitions and community service.
Our first challenge was getting a site that was central enough to be accessible and scalable to our needs to make motorsports affordable for the masses. Then we had to find the seed money. Then we had to turn our concept into all the little details. Then we had to get authority approvals. And finally now we will start construction.
We can ask for the stars, but beggars can’t be choosers. At last, we can expect our motoring lives to be more organized. Drifters don’t have to practice in odd areas, ‘cub-chais’ don’t have to ‘lipat’ the Parliament corner and our friends in the Drag scene don’t have to close down highways just to get our required dose of ‘stim’.
We are more hopeful today that we can be happy without turning our lives upside down. The bad news is that we are being led by our fantasies. The good news is that we are fully capable of making our dreams, however unrealistic, come true. Planning can make the difference between failure and success. We only have fifty two weeks in a year. The organisers want the weekends. The trainers and automotive vendors want week days. The sponsors want to see numbers. Let’s plan.
Borrowing and Malaysian-ising a phrase from our aviation industry, we can say, “Now Everyone Can Drive Fast-Fast.” We need the speed and this is OUR playground.
Friends,
Let me share with you a little about KL MotoPark. The Park is conceived to be a youth-centric recreational park with a motoring theme, and designed to be a multi-purpose urban complex to fulfill all sorts of needs. When I say that this is a playground, it also means that the KL MotoPark is beyond the track experience. It is, in fact, a place for the motorsports lifestyle. It is a place for spectators, a place for drivers, a place for riders, a place for fans and even child protégés. Even if you ‘lepak’ here it will be productive.
KL MotoPark’s six-hectare, or 15 acre build is laid out as such that it provides flexibility for us. It’s not just a track, but an ideal venue to host motor safety initiatives with facilities for driver training, road-safety programmes and skill-enhancement. Youth-oriented activities can be hosted here as well, including concerts, carnivals, exhibitions, festivals, night marathons and special interest events.
Those of you here who are enthusiasts will also be glad to know that KL MotoPark will also be hosting its own flagship events designed to appeal to the biological need for spectacles and speed. The MotoPark will be home to all sorts of racing, drifting, drag, motocross and rally-cross events. Some of the events which may interest you are the Super Street Racing (SSR), Drag Battle Championship, Sprint Battle, Drift Prodigi and Super Cub 300.
Those of you who would like to win the first memberships of the prestigious Velocity Card Memberships, you will be interested to know that the KLMP treasure hunt will start tomorrow and those interested in the prizes please visit our website; motopark.com.my.
Esteemed members of the media, ladies and gentlemen, let me finish by saying KL MotoPark and the motoring community needs your continuous support to further advance our motorsports industry. The effort that you are putting in is very much valuable indeed. As it is, although the support and funding of the motorsports industry has grown over the years, we need more support to make a real and sustainable difference to the industry.
Let us pledge to drive our passions to a new level!
Thank you.
