 The Super Sprint Championship (Drag bike racing) at KLMP will see keen interest among the biking community, as they strut their machines at the appropriate arena.
Drag bike racing is an acceleration contest from a standing start between two vehicles over a measured distance. Standard for that distance is either a quarter-mile (400 meters) or an eighth-mile (200 meters). The losing rider in each race is eliminated, and the winning rider progresses until one rider remains.
Vehicles are classified into different classes by various criteria that take into account the extent of modifications to the bike. A newly-formatted Stunt Bike Challenge category will be introduced as supporting events and will add value to the Super Sprint Championship. Bikes will be segregated into three categories:
- Underbone 80cc – 135cc (4-stroke horizontal layout engines only)
- Underbone 80cc – 125cc (2-stroke)
- Underbone 135cc – 150cc (2-stroke)
The Super Sprint Championship will use proven drag lights and timing equipment for categorical race results. Points will be given based on the results and accumulated points for final standings in the championship. The Stunt Bike Challenge category is open to all kind of bikes and stunt riders of all ages.
It will be held at KL MotoPark, with six rounds of championship throughout the year. The top three in the drag championship standings will be eligible for sponsorship opportunities from participating companies in KL MotoPark’s sponsorship programme. The top three in the Stunt Bike Challenge standings will be selected as Wazi Stunt Team apprentices.
With the introduction of the Super Sprint Championship, this number would increase to approx. 400 competitors in both categories (from Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand)..
The Super Sprint Championship is recognized by the Automobile Association of Malaysia, the local motorsports governing body, providing a safe & controlled platform for the sport. |
