Drift Prodigy Print E-mail

KLMP_DriftProdigy.gifThe Drift Prodigy event will feature drifting, a very popular sport among the motoring community.

Drifting is a high-skill motorsport, in which the driver controls a car while it slides from side to side at high speed (approx. 130 to 160km/h) through a fixed course. It’s similar to rally racing, but done on a Tarmac (paved course) and judged on speed, angle of attack, execution and style, rather than just who finishes the fastest.

Drift cars are typically compact to mid-sized, rear-wheel-drive sports cars. The goal is to apply enough power to the rear wheels to break the tires' traction and initiate a slide while accelerating the vehicle forward, or "drift". Once a drift is initiated, it must be maintained through the turn using nearly full power, a tap of braking and precise counter-steering.

Drift Prodigy is a spin-off event, derived from Street Shootout and D1 series, which was successfully introduced since 2003. Drift Prodigy will use an expert as well as crowd judging system for greater public interaction.

Points will be given based on the speed, angle, skills and greatest drift maneuvers, and will be held at KL MotoPark with six rounds of championship throughout the year.

For the first time in Malaysian drifting history, Drift Prodigy will introduce a newly-formulated Synchronized Team Drifting and Dogfight Battle Team Drift, where three drifters who represent the same team or sponsors will perform for the most synchronized drifting maneuver to impress the judges and the crowd.

Tsuiso Drift is common, and needs no introduction.

Synchronized Tandem Team Drift is where a team of 2 cars drift together, the aim is to keep as close as possible and with precise, synchronized movements.

Dogfight Battle Team Drift is something new, to try and add spice to the drifting scene. It’s based on aerial warfare dogfights. A team consists of 2 cars, which will tsuiso-battle. However, the teams will tsuiso with opposition cars interlaced amongst each other, in the following order:

Team A Car 1, Team B Car 1, Team A Car 2, Team B Car 2

Thus it creates some interesting tactical drifting from each driver as well as the teams.

Prizes will be trophies, small cash prizes, and sponsored items.

Drift Prodigy is recognized by the Automobile Association of Malaysia, the local motorsports governing body, providing a safe and controlled platform for the sport.
